What is Ground Up Development?

Ground up development is the building of a real estate asset completely from scratch. The starting point can be in the form of undeveloped land or the complete leveling of an existing structure. A renovation project, however, doesn’t start from scratch. Instead, many of the building’s components are demolished and rebuilt, while its structural elements are left intact. Typically, renovation projects require a fair bit of construction work – just like a ground-up project – but if a large part of an older building is being utilized, it’s still most likely referred to as a renovation.
